The Applejacks  at The 76 Club

BAND INFORMATION

The group were formed in Solihull, Birmingham in 1961 and were originally an instrumental band called The Crestas. They signed for Decca Records in 1963 and released their first single, Tell Me When, in February 1964. This single was a massive success and reached number 7 in the UK charts. Lennon and McCartney provided The Applejacks with their second hit Like Dreamers Do which also got into the top twenty. In 1966 The Applejacks accepted a contract, from Cunard, to be the cabaret artists on their luxury Trans-Atlantic ocean liners. Although financially lucrative at the time, it did put an end to their chart success. After this band members gradually left the band but they will always be remembered as the first BrumBeat band to have a hit single.
